Topics & Projects
[Updated 10/11/07]

The Topics & Projects section of this site categorizes the Reports and Projects by field of study and time period.

Topics are presented with written summaries, class descriptions, overviews, reports, and raw data. Some of the topics also include video presentations. Click video presentations to see the full catalogue of educational videos:

Summary:
This section will provide a brief description designed to give the reader a general idea of the topic and its current state of development.

Classification Description:
A brief description of the merits of each report.

Overview:
Reports are written with an emphasis on quoting the original source material as much as possible. This allows you to have a direct appreciate for the nature of the corroborations, free from editorial interpretations. Sometimes explanations of the scientific terminology used in the original source material can make the reports rather lengthy. Other aspects of a topic also can make for long reports. Overviews are provided so that you can get an appreciation for the fullness of the topic without having to read so much material. Overviews avoid the use of technical language and do not emphasize quoting the original sources.

Report:
This section is intended to provide a comprehensive analysis of the topic. Some topics relate to issues that are not settled aspects of science within the scholarly community. As the science develops updates to the reports will be made. This is a natural part of the process for this type of undertaking. "Update" tags inform the reader regarding the last time that work on the topic was posted. If you come across material on a topic that has developed since the last update, please pass it along.

Raw Data:
This section provides information and links to information that may have been used to write the reports. Raw Data for the purposes of this site has little, if anything, to do with the way this term is used in the scientific and scholarly communities. It simply stands for anything that was found during the research process in preparing the report.

Please contact Halbert if you are aware of any additional research or discoveries that would add further support to the current reports or that might support the creation of new reports. See the Get Involved section for further information about participation.

The Urantia Book recounts history and talks about physical reality within its own context of theological and cosmological assertions. Because this site is not about these aspects of The Urantia Book (except to the degree that cosmology embraces astronomy), these aspects of the book will be minimized. However, It is not possible to completely separate the issues because, for instance, some of the theology and cosmology relate directly to issues of physical evolution.

It is important to remember that this site is written based on the common definitions that words have. The Urantia Book defines theological and cosmological words on its own terms and introduces many new words in order to express new ideas and things that we otherwise do not have name for. Occasionally, some of the theology and cosmology of The Urantia Book and some of these new words may need to be introduced and explained.

When this is necessary, it will be done to provide what is minimally necessary for an appreciation of the scientific and scholarly issues that are being considered. There will be no attempt to use words or define terms in a way that is consistent with how The Urantia Book uses terminology (unless it relates directly to the scientific and scholarly issues at hand).

People more familiar with The Urantia Book are asked to appreciate that in order to be of service to those who are not familiar with the book, theological and cosmological material may be presented in a “distorted” or “inconsistent” manner with respect to how The Urantia Book uses terminology. The primary purpose of this site is to make it easy on those who are unfamiliar with The Urantia Book to understand the information that is made available at this site.

People who are unfamiliar with The Urantia Book’s theology and cosmology also need to take consideration of the limitations of this approach. The reports focus on new discoveries and scientific advances are corroborating historic and scientific information that was not generally accepted as true when The Urantia Book was first published in 1955. The intention is to avoid getting bogged down with explanations about new theological and cosmological ideas. To varying degrees this may sacrifice providing a fuller context for the statements that are being corroborated. However, links to the quoted sections of The Urantia Book are provided so that you can explore those sections more fully if you so desire.
